🔑 Quick Pointers
  1. UCAS only allows 5 course choices total, so plan wisely.
  1. Oxford and Cambridge only allow one or the other, and no Medicine + Oxbridge combo.
  1. Personal statement is shared across all choices — keep it general but focused.
  1. You must include an academic reference to submit; ask your teacher early.
  1. For highly selective courses (e.g. Law, Medicine, Economics), expect additional tests like LNAT, UCAT, BMAT, or MAT.
  1. English language requirements vary: IELTS/TOEFL scores are often needed for international students.

U.S. Undergraduate Application Timeline

Phase & Date
What’s Happening
Why It Matters
Spring 2025
Test planning — target SAT/ACT sittings in March, May, or June so you have scores before early deadlines. SAT dates for the full testing year are already posted on College Board
Keeps later months free for essays & classwork.
May–July 2025
• Finalize college list, line up recommenders, draft Common App essay prompts (they’re published each spring)
Teachers need notice; essays take revisions.
Aug 1 2025
Common App & Coalition App officially open
You can now fill out forms, link recommenders, and submit once everything’s ready.
Oct 1 2025
FAFSA & CSS Profile go live (midnight CT) ; CSS Profile opens the same day
Filing early helps grab limited-pool institutional aid.
Oct 15 2025
First wave of Early Action deadlines at some public flagships (e.g., UNC-Chapel Hill, Georgia Tech). Check each school’s website.
Early Action is non-binding, so it’s popular for public universities.
Nov 1 2025
Classic Early Decision / Early Action Round 1 deadline
ED is binding and can give a modest admit-rate bump .
Nov 15 2025
Second cluster of EA/ED dates
Common for schools like NYU (ED I) or UVA (EA).
Dec 2025
• Last SAT/ACT sittings most colleges accept for Regular Decision (often December test) • ED I results usually drop mid-December
Gives time to pivot to ED II or tweak RD apps.
Jan 1 2026
Regular Decision deadline for many highly selective colleges
Submit by 11:59 pm applicant’s local time unless a school says otherwise.
Jan 2-15 2026
• Alternate RD dates (e.g., USC Jan 15).• Early Decision II deadlines at schools offering a second binding round.
Useful if ED I didn’t work out but you still want a binding option.
Feb 2026
Priority financial-aid deadlines at many private colleges; double-check each school’s portal.
Late FAFSA/CSS filings can reduce aid.
Mar–Apr 2026
• Admission decisions roll out (Ivy Day sits late March).• Financial-aid letters arrive.
Time to compare fit and cost.
May 1 2026 – National College Decision Day
Pay enrollment deposit & sign commitment
Missing the date can cost your spot (ask if you need an extension).
May–June 2026
Waitlist movement — colleges fill seats as deposits melt away
Stay responsive; offers come fast.
June 2026
Send final high-school transcript & AP scores.
Your offer is contingent on finishing senior year strong.
Aug 2026
Orientation and move-in 🎉
Welcome to college!

🔑 Quick Pointers
  1. Aim to finish testing before senior year; nobody loves cramming for December SAT while writing RD essays.
  1. File FAFSA/CSS soon after Oct 1 — some grant pools are first-come, first-served.
  1. Double-check each college for its own quirky dates (rolling-admission schools accept apps as early as July).
  1. Reach out to recommenders before summer break so they’re not swamped in October.

  • EA (Early Action):

  • RD (Regular Decision):
  • Rolling Admission:
